I was required to spice up a very dry and difficult article; about how to best secure a long term plan and funding – when developing wellfare tech. Quite a mouthful, but one line stuck with me: .. What might be the best solution for one person, might be the worst for the next.
Personally this might not be my best work, but as a danish saying goes: ‘One can’t keep inventing the deep plate over again’.
Miss Bimbo Vs. a high-tech deep plate; ladies and gentlemen:
Spastikeren # 2 for ’12, will be in mailboxes mid- april.
This illustration needed to symbolize two different counties – not being able to agree upon the level of service offered to a disabled citizen and thereby (thanks to the courts) effectively being allowed re-call citizens to the county of their birth.
A very alarming fact, that neighboring county politics and economy now officially seem more important than free will and (equal) civil rights ..
Tagline from the article draft: This practice was abolished in 1788 for peasantry. But, in 2012 new legislation re-instated it- for the disabled.
Spastikeren #1 for 2012 will be out mid- febuary.
Yes.. This is another reminder to notify Spastikerforeningen if you have moved, or are planing to do so, within their bi-monthly releases.
- This time around they themselves will have moved before their next publication – so let ‘em know, if also did so!
That being said, both Santa and I wish you a Merry Xmas and a Happy Newyear.
Website graphic ‘slash’ facebook update-icon for ‘Socialt Udviklingscenter SUS’, a non govermantal organization that I’ve had the pleasure working with on-and-off since 2005.
Maybe a wee bit too abstract and anime inspired; this here thingie came to be in an attempt to illustrate one of our regular panels.
After reviewing my work, SUS had a change of heart and asked me to revisit my illustration, pushhing the panelists being more visually disabled. An idea they at first okay’ed, that I downplayed.
But as is said, the customer is always right..
.. This time I had to find a way around drawing pictures full of crosses and people hanging from them.
The Article was written by Jakob Nossel, who also participated in the Sundance award-winning documentary ‘The Red Chapel’ about North Korea’s totalitarian regime.
At first my idea was to portray Jakob as Jesus of Nazareth being taken down from the cross at Golgata. Later, to draw Jesus somewhat jealous of a disabled person getting all the special attention, without even carrying his own cross. Etc.
Not to upset Jakob, nor the Son of God and his followers; or even those who oppose him – I opted for drawing Jakob himself being ‘ripe for peeling’.. As this was the subject: That disabled people need/want to be able to identify themselves as individuals, without everybody feeling sorry for them per default – and thereby letting that define who they are and how they are percieved.
A keen-eyed viever would (hopefully) be able to spot a slight resemblence in my caricature.
This illustration be come out in the 5th (of 6 in 2011) October edition of Spastikeren.
Stick figure from 2004, finally being used parodying Piero Manzons piece Artist’s shit.
With luck a total of 7 shirts will come out. Technically 1 per continent of the globe. Not sold in shops anywhere.
Pretty unique, indeed.
This time around I was given the task to illustrate how very different people with Cerebral Palsy are treated, from one county to the next ..
I think maybe somebody are cheering, as I finally drew what many a person have suggested would be the ultimate electrical wheelcahir – but lets not get carried away here.
A girly version is still to be seen. Maybe sometime in the future.
This article can be read in the upcoming No. 4 (of 6 in 2011) August edition of Spastikeren.
